WRC Chairman, Nick Rule said the Community Race Day is an annual fundraising event that is set to raise approximately $5,000 for the chosen local community organisation. “Each year the club receives numerous requests for assistance from local not-for-profit groups and as a not-for-profit club ourselves, it’s important for us to ensure we are contributing back.
Our Community Race Day is held in March each season and this year we are delighted to be able to provide a donation to the Warrnambool Pony Club that will offer a significant contribution to their fundraising efforts” Rule said.
The Warrnambool Pony Club is a small member based club assisted solely by their families, all on a volunteer basis. Its current committee is strongly dedicated to providing all members with the best possible opportunities to develop as riders and engage in a healthy social environment at the same time.
Pony Club Committee representative, Ultra Williams, said that the donation of funds through the Community Race Day initiative would allow the club to purchase much needed items that would typically take years of fundraising to accomplish. “We are extremely grateful to the Warrnambool Racing Club for its generous support this year.
With the donation of funds, we look to purchase horse rugs used as trophies for events, upgrade the cross-country course to include a Grand Annual jump constructed as a traditional steeple with brush and provide much needed maintenance and development to the existing jumps on course” Williams said.
The Community Race Day is a family friendly event and the club encourages everyone in the community to attend, with adult admission just $10 and children under 18 years of age free. Gates open at 12.30pm, with lunch and afternoon tea available in the Matilda Room and Glasshouse café and tables can be pre-booked by phoning the club on 03 5562 2211.
The club welcomes expressions of interest from community organisations for its 2020 Community Race Day and a letter of request, including a description of the fundraising project, can be forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org
