Highway Works A Risk

Motorists and Worker Safety Questioned After A Number Of Incidents

Following a number of incidents along the stretch of road, Member for South West Coast and Shadow Minister for Rural Roads Roma Britnell says urgent action is needed to improve safety for motorists and workers on the Princes Highway between Panmure and Cudgee,

Ms Britnell said signage and temporary line markings on the sections of road that are undergoing works are incredibly confusing and need to be fixed before there is a serious incident.

“I’ve had people contacting me saying they have seen people so confused by the temporary line markings that they are ending up on the wrong side of the road,” Ms Britnell said.

“I’ve driven on it myself and agree, the temporary line markings are confusing especially when the normal white line markings are visible.

“As drivers we are conditioned to follow the white lines, so when there are two sets of line markings visible, it’s easy to get confused.

“There is potential for a serious accident to happen and it is putting both motorists and those working on the road at risk.

“I’ve written to the Minster for Roads Ben Carroll asking him to ensure it is sorted out.

“In the meantime I urge everyone to be extra vigilant when driving travelling through the area.”
