Koroit Irish Festival

Irish Wolfhound Club to join festivities

The authenticity of the Koroit Irish Festival continues to grow with this year’s event to feature one of the most unique members of Ireland’s animal kingdom.

The festival’s street procession will feature members of the Irish Wolfhound Club of Victoria Inc. and their dogs.

Secretary of the club Kathryn O’Brien said members were coming from all over Victoria for the festival.

“We have members coming from Central Victoria, Sunbury, Gisborne and Geelong to take part in this wonderful festival,” Ms O’Brien said.

“The Irish Wolfhound Club of Victoria Inc. is so proud and excited to be participating in the parade at the Koroit Irish Festival for the first time.

“Our members are marching in the parade with our beloved Irish Wolfhounds to celebrate all things Irish – and you can’t get more Irish than an Irish Wolfhound.”

The Koroit Irish Festival will be held on the weekend of April 26-28 and is expected to draw upwards of 4000 people to the historic village.

The street procession will be held on the Saturday of the festival.

Koroit Irish Festival committee member Adele MacDonald said the inclusion of the Irish Wolfhounds was another step forward in the evolution of the festival.

“People love the festival because it is so unique and is so authentically Irish,” Mrs MacDonald said.

“We had a wonderful comment last year from an Irish person who said the festival was like St Patrick’s Day in a really good Irish village.

“People feel like they are coming to Ireland for the weekend and it is just so much fun.

“Having these beautiful Irish Wolfhounds here for the festival will just add to that atmosphere, we can’t wait.”

While tickets for the festival’s Friday night concert are sold out, there are still tickets available for the Saturday and Sunday.

“There is just much on for the weekend, book your tickets and come out,” Mrs MacDonald said.

“One of our mottos is great community, great value, great fun. We think the festival well and truly lives up to that.”
