Walsh Says Labor Not Putting Locals First

Leader of the Nationals Peter Walsh says rural and regional communities will play second fiddle to large scale projects under the state government's decision to cut money from regional funds.

The 2019/20 State Budget included the axing of the Regional Growth Fund and the Regional Development Victoria’s (RDV) budget cut by $130 million.

The number of projects the state government had planned to support in regional Victoria have been halved as well.

Walsh, also the Shadow Minister for Regional Victoria and Decentralisation, says the government's move is insulting.

"Country Victorians have learnt from experience that when the Andrews Government says they’re taking a more ‘targeted’ approach it means cuts,"

"It also means less funding for regional communities beyond Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong."
