Senior Sergeant Tania Barbary says with thousands of visitors in the region for the Folk Festival and many other events taking place, motorists will need to be patient on the roads.

"We've been really pleased with crowd behaviour over the past few years and we'll be encouraging patrons to make sure they behave in the expected manner and they don't ruin it for others."

Senior Sergeant Tania Barbary says with six road deaths already in our region this year, they're pleading with motorists to slow down and do the right thing.

The Transport Accident Commission joined in the chorus, calling for Victorians to take care on the roads, after the worst start to the road toll in more than a decade.

The TAC will fund an additional 384 hours of Operation Arid traffic enforcement through its Enhanced Enforcement grants program.

Operation Arid runs from 12.01am Friday 8th March until 11.59pm Monday 11 March.
