Residents urged to avoid closed roads, or attempting to drive through floodwater

A number of roads are closed as part of flash flooding across the South West, following a significant downpour last night.

SES and Emergency Service Crews spent much of the night responding to calls for assistance, with the Warrnambool and Port Fairy SES Units responding to over 20 calls.

At this stage a number of road closures are in place, and the SES along with Warrnambool Police have urged local residents to avoid the areas, or attempting to drive through floodwater.

At this stage the closures include.

Penshurst-Warrnambool Road is closed between Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road and Spencer Road due to flooding. Consider using Koroit-Woolsthorpe Road as an alternative.

Tower Hill Road is closed in both directions at Conns Lane due to flooding. Consider alternatives. Allow extra time. Never drive on flooded roads.

Woolsthorpe-Heywood Road is closed both directions between Harris Road and Penshurst-Warrnambool Road due to flooding. Consider alternatives. Never drive through flooded roads.

Merri River at Grassmere is flooded causing roadblock at river.

The Warrnamboll City Council has confirmed Council staff are working to check and clear drains, repair roads and have installed signage advising residents and motorists of any water hazards.

The gates in the Russells Creek flood walls have been installed and will remain in place while water levels remain high and further rain is forecast, pedestrians are advised to avoid the Russells Creek trail.
