The eyes of the TEDx community will be on the South West, with the TEDxWarrnambool event having been rescheduled for a new date this year.

Originally the global reaching event had been scheduled for April 3, 2020, but restrictions introduced in March meant it had to be postponed.

All six speakers from the original line-up have been retained for a new date on May 28, with both the venue for the event itself and the official live-stream site able to accommodate the original crowd capacity of 100 audience members each.

TEDxWarrnambool Organiser Helen Sheedy said that after a long wait, she was ecstatic to be able to lock in the new date.

“The past year has been one of the most tumultuous in modern history, and I think that as a society, we need TEDx now more than ever,” she said.

“This is evident in the huge spike of views on what was already one of the most popular forms of online content, TEDx Talks Youtube subscribers have jumped from 22 million to 30 million in the past year"

“At TEDx Warrnambool, we will be telling local stories to a global audience with the aim of inspiring people to do what they can to make a better world.”

Ms Sheedy thanked TEDxWarrnambool speakers and ticket holders for their patience while the event was postponed.

“The deliberately small number of audience members permitted at each event has worked in our favour too, so we are able to have the full allocation of ticketholders at each site and stay within all of the latest COVID-safe rules.

“After securing tickets in a ballot process and then having the event postponed just a couple of weeks before the original date, our audience members have been incredibly understanding. Hopefully the past year of anticipation has them more excited than ever to be in the audience to hear first-hand from our incredible line-up of TEDxWarrnambool speakers.
