Operation Optimus Targets Heavy Vehicles

Following a number of collisions involving heavy vehicles in the south west, Terang Police teamed up with members from Warrnambool Highway Patrol, Camperdown and Cobden Police and officers from VicRoads to target larger vehicles on south west roads.

The one day operation ran on Wednesday and was dubbed "Operation Optimus" where a road block was conducted on High Street in Terang,

A total of 55 heavy vehicles were intercepted over a 6 hour period and 20 cars, with 75 preliminary breath tests conducted.

There were 7 defect notices issued for heavy vehicles that did not meet the roadworthy requirements to be on south west roads.

One heavy vehicle was grounded immediately to rectify their faults.

Infringement Notices were issued for using an unsafe heavy vehicle, breach of work hours and excess speed.

Numerous warnings were given for minor breaches and minor defects, with the objective of further educating drivers.

Terang Police will continue to target heavy vehicles, conducting further operations in the future.
