Strong Winds Cause Havoc

The south west region of the state was battered by wild winds and rain overnight, and an expected cold front will bring plenty more across the weekend.

Wind gusts of up to 120 km/h were recorded at Cape Otway. In Warrnambool the highest gust recorded was at 4:43am where it peaked at 98km/h.

Around 10mls of rain fell in Warrnambool overnight.

The wild conditions played havoc in the south west as emergency services were called out to attend a number of incidents.

SES State Duty Officer Aaron White says that they attended around 160 requests for assistance across the state, mainly around fallen trees.

Ahead for the weekend, more gale force winds are expected, plenty of rain and possible hail. Conditions are expected to ease by around Monday and clear by the middle of next week.
